On Tuesday, Del Sol's men decided not to run Colin Smith and Casey Walter in the Basic-Del Sol-Liberty meet. This led to Basic dominating the mens race with Jonny Stiles leading the team to victory with a 13:17 finish on Del Sol's 2.4 mile course. Del Sol's Nick Priego (and my fellow Vegas Lightning teammate) took the field out fast, and finished 2nd with a time of 13:40. Priego is one to watch out for come regionals because his time's keep improving by large margins every race. Finishing 3rd was Basic's only returning state qualifier Kaleb Stumbaugh, who always comes out strong in the important races. One of the best 800 meter runners in the state of Nevada, senior Stephan Maman continues to keep improving on his slow twitch muscle fibers as he placed 4th, military man Kevin Beck placed 5th, and sophomore transfer from Oregon Noah Pinto placed 6th to give Basic an easy 40 victory over Del Sol and Liberty.

Basic-19

Del Sol-59 (Won by 6th man tie-breaker)

Liberty-59

On the womens side it was all Basic, with no competetion from either Del Sol or Liberty. Junior Erika Oceguera passed up Natasha on the last part of the course to give her the victory in the time of 16:26. Junior transfer from Foothill Natasha Tomlinson led the race the entire way until Erika "The Pace Maker" Oceguera got the best of her. Jessica Raymond placed 3rd, Alex Acosta placed 4th, Iris "Jummy" Munguia placed 6th to give Basic a 1-2-3-4-5-6 sweep over the other teams to recieve a perfect score.

Basic-15

Del Sol-60

Liberty-66

At the Falcon Invite the mens junior/senior division took 2nd in team score out of the 15 team field. They were led by Kaleb Stumbaugh (13:40), and Jonny Stiles (13:41) who both finished in the top 10 placing 8th and 9th. Beck (14:02), Maman (14:09), and Meeks (14:53) all hit new PRs to give Basic the win over Coronado. In the frosh-soph race sophomore Noah Pinto led the team with a 13:57 performance in the 2.5 mile course to hit a new PR and place 7th, and sophomore Will Gibbs came in at 14:42 to finish 15th.

On the womens side of the meet, sophomore Jessica Raymond ran an amazing 16:27 to place 5th in the frosh-soph divison. Erika Oceguera led the older ladies to an 8th place finish with a 16:46. Not far behind was Natasha Tomlinson who placed 10th with a time of 16:52. Sophomore Alex Acosta didn't let her hip problems bother her as she ran a new PR this year running a 17:13 and placing 12th in the frosh-soph, and she will continue to improve as long as she focuses on the task at hand. A big surprise for Basic is freshman Melanie Harris who continues to cut down her time each meet. Melanie swam in the Junior Olympics swimming the 1500 meter in 17:59, and is a great athlete. Shoulder problems have caused her to get out of shape for the past half a year or so, but now that she's back in it, she shows no signs of slowing down. She ran 1 17:36 in the meet to place 15th in the frosh-soph divison. The 5th best performance of the day belonged to Iris Munguia...or as I like to call, Jummy. Jum ran an 18:16, which is a bad time for her, but if she continues to work as hard as she does in track she will come up big in regionals for us. It's hard for her to do cross country when she dominates the 800 meter in track, but I have faith in her.

Male Athlete Of The Week:

Jonny Stiles (Jr.)

Kaleb might have beat Jonny in the Falcon Invite by a second, and a single place, but Jonny dominated in the Tuesday meet @ Del Sol. For that reason I'd award Jonny Male Athlete Of THe Week.

Female Athlete Of The Week:

Erika Oceguera (Jr.) Jessica beasted it at the Falcon Invite, but Erika had the win @ Del Sol, worked hard in practice, and had the better average time between our two meets this week winning the honors of athlete of the week :)

Best Individual Improvement Male:

Kevin Beck (Sr.) Kevin Beck continues to surprise me. At the beginning of the season I thought he'd be our number 6 guy...but things have certainly changed. He's come a very long way since his freshman year, and his big PR at the Falcon Invite has made himself the best improved male this week :)

Best Individual Improvement Female:

Melanie Harris (Fr.) Just getting back in to shape from a horrible shoulder injury, Melanie is getting on track at just about the right time. Her times have dropped since the Basic meet and LVI, and at the Falcon Invite she impressed me. Right now she sits at the number 6 spot for the ladies, but if she keeps it she could be number 4 by the end of the year.
